Harrimans Inc. – Solar Energy Solutions a leading edge Solar Energy Contractor in Sarasota County - Some of our recent headline projects have been the Turtle Rock subdivision Solar Lighting project collectively taking 176 natural gas street lights off line in this Palmer Ranch subdivision, thus reducing their carbon foot print in excess of 420 tons of CO2 per year. Habitat for Humanity, Cluster Home project recently won the SBC 2008 Aurora award for most energy efficient house, we installed Solar Water Heaters on all (7) energy efficient homes, additional current projects include the Janie Poe, low income solar water heating project, Diocese of Venice Solar Water Heating project. Harrimans, Inc. is also proud to announce they will be partnering with Johnson Controls and Solar Source on the new Megawatt (One Million Watt) Photovoltaic / Solar Electric project at Orange County Convention Center (Orlando) this will be the largest Solar Electric project installed in Florida to date. Scheduled start date early 2009. A Megawatt of power achieves the following per year:
• Produces enough energy to drive a car 2.48 million miles, which is 99 times around the earth at the equator
• Based on national averages, saves $150,000 in billed energy use
• Prevent 1,162 tons of CO2 emissions
• Prevents the burning of 1.5 million pounds of coal ¹
Since 1983 Harrimans, Inc. has installed in excess of 10,000 Solar Water heating / Solar Pool heating as well as Solar Electric systems with a collective reduction over 1,806,696 tons of CO2 emissions to the environment². Thomas R. Harriman graduated from University of South Florida in 1981 with a BSBA in marketing. Mr. Harriman is a state certified solar energy contractor and state certified unlimited electrical contractor. Since 1983, he has been President of Harrimans, Inc. installing solar power / photovoltaic, solar water heaters, solar lighting and solar pool heaters. He is the Immediate Past President of the Florida Solar Energy Industry Association and has been a board member for 8 years. Mr. Harriman is a subject matter expert for the Professional Testing Institute, helping develop test questions for State Solar Contractor Certification Licensing. Presently, he sits on the Council of the Florida Solar Energy Center's Alternative Energy Banner Training Program, making alternative energy training available to students throughout Florida on a community college and Vo-technical level. Additionally, Mr. Harriman has been recognized by the Environmental Defense Fund as an industry leader in their “Faces of climate change in Florida” campaign
